AZ Sint-Lucas expands its partnership with AZmed, adding AZmeasure alongside AZtrauma

PARIS, October 5, 2026 -- AZmed, one of the leading AI companies in medical imaging, today announced the expansion of its partnership with AZ Sint-Lucas in Belgium. Alongside AZtrauma, which has supported the detection of musculoskeletal findings on X-rays since 2022, the hospital's radiology department now adds AZmeasure to automate orthopedic measurements.
The Flemish government has capped the number of new doctors training in radiology at 15 in 2026. The EU-REST workforce study found that 45% of radiologists in Europe are over 51. So there are fewer radiologists to read more X-rays, and the risk of missed findings increases.
AZtrauma and AZmeasure are part of Rayvolve, the AI suite built for that kind of pressure. It is clinically validated and CE-marked, and covers the X-ray exams that radiologists interpret most, helping them make faster diagnostic decisions. This year, the four modules of the suite were tested in the largest published study of X-ray AI to date, across 258,373 X-rays from 100 centers in 26 countries.
AZtrauma is the most extensively validated AI solution in the world for musculoskeletal X-rays. It detects fractures, dislocations and joint effusions as well as tumoral, degenerative and osteoarthritic lesions. On 195,706 of those X-rays, it had an AUC of 0.983, with 97.4% sensitivity and 96.4% specificity.

"In our experience, AZtrauma is one of the best AI applications on the market today," said Dr. Pieter Vandaele, Head of Radiology at AZ Sint-Lucas.
AZmeasure automates one of the most repetitive tasks in radiology. It calculates the lengths and angles that radiologists use on a daily basis, from scoliosis to hallux valgus to flat or hollow foot. In the same study, it had a mean absolute error of 1.8 degrees for angles and 1.1 mm for distances compared to expert readers.
"We are pleased with AZmeasure on weight-bearing foot and ankle X-rays," Dr. Vandaele added. "Our foot surgeons share that view. They consider the measurements consistent enough to compare before and after surgery."
That kind of feedback fuels the partnership. AZ Sint-Lucas clinicians regularly share their insights, and AZmed remains proactive long after deployment, providing ongoing support to the radiology department and feeding that input into the development of Rayvolve. As a result, the technology continues to evolve around radiologists' real-world needs.
AZ Sint-Lucas is one of a growing number of Flemish hospitals where AZmed's AI has been integrated into routine radiology practice, some of them for years.
"Every X-ray should arrive at the radiologist already analyzed and already measured," said Julien VIDAL, CEO of AZmed. "At AZ Sint-Lucas, radiologists and orthopedic surgeons now share the same consistent output. This is where AI in radiology is headed, and we are leading that shift."
This expansion further consolidates AZmed's position as the preferred AI partner for radiology departments in Belgium and Europe.
